Not Just Another Poem

After a month’s rest I opened up again the impulse to write and Nature was there waiting as always.

All around there is what we call life and death, but that is an error. There is neither life nor death, just a life force that goes on and on. It requires no name and is attached to no one single being… All nature is its expression, as I am, as you are.

If you cannot see and embrace the beauty of the life force, its rising and its falling as its undivided Oneness then you neither understand what we call life and cannot embrace it with more than your mind.

As a child there were many poems I learned that guided my life and for those in the presence of the “shadow of death”  I send you this poem.

Fear Death?

To feel the fog in my throat,

The mist in my face

When the snows begin, and the blasts denote

I am nearing the place

The power of the night, the press of the storm,

The post of the foe

Where he stands, The Arch fear in visible form,

yet the strong man must go:

For the journey is done and the summit attained,

And the barriers fall.

Tho’ a battle’s to fight ere the guerdon be gained,

The reward of it all.

I was always a fighter, so—one fight more

The best… and the last!

I wpuld hate that death bandaged my eyes , and forebare,

And bade me creep past.

No! let me taste the whole of it, fare like my peers

The heroes of old,

Bear the brunt, in a minute pay glad life’s arrears

Of pain, darkness and cold.

For sudden the worst turns the best to the brave,

The black minute’s at end,

And the elements rage, the friend-voices that rave,

Shall dwindle,  shall blend,

Shall change, shll become first a peace out of pain,

Then a light, then thy breast,

O thou soul of my soul! I shall clasp thee again,

And with One be the rest

Robert Brownng. with one word changed
 for non-sectaran reasons.

One Response to “Not Just Another Poem”

  1. What makes poetry so wonderful is the fact that it involves all of life, every concern, every desire, and every feeling. If something has some great significance to a person’s existence, then it has a great significance in poetry as well.
